Alumni Couple, Jack & Karen Krug, Make Wine and Farm On Whidbey Island

Retired from the oil and gas industry, Jack '70, MS '71, PhD '77 and Karen '84, have taken up farming, grape growing, and cattle raising on a small farm in Whidbey Island, Washington. When Jack isn't enjoying the odd short spell as an on-site oil rig supervisor or working with his wife tending pinot noir grapes, he takes up woodworking and furniture making projects. He recently built a bathhouse, which was featured on the back cover of the Fall/Winter 2008 edition of Fine Homebuilding magazine. Complete with a Japanese soaking tub and sauna, the beautiful structure is pictured below, along with snapshots from their new life. See the Krug's complete profile, Spoiled Dogs, Pinot Noir and Black Angus Cattle, for more on how the couple is enjoying their new life as vintner/farmers.
